Welcome Back to Your Own Hours

THE GREAT TIME THEFT, Part 11 of 11, the finale. Inspired by the reel from Alien/Cozmo (@aliencozmo1111): "I hope our world heals and unites one day." — From the desk of Kiler Davenport

If you've read this far, some part of you already knew. You felt the years going and you wanted a reason that wasn't "I'm getting old."

Here's the reason, and here's the thread through the whole series. The time theft and the sickness are the same wound. A person whose attention is harvested, whose days are counted in billable units, whose nights are lit by a screen, is disconnected: from memory, from other people, from the seasons, from their own hands. Disconnection is the disease. Everything we covered is reconnection: presence, nature, people, making, rest, rhythm, awe. For roughly 290,000 years humans lived inside all of it, not as wellness practices but as Tuesday.

The reel reaches for the movie Click, the 2006 Adam Sandler comedy about a man whose remote fast-forwards his life until he wakes up old. It's played for laughs, but it's an honest parable. The remote is real. It's in your pocket.

Here's the hard truth, and the good news inside it. You can put the remote down. Nobody is coming to hand you your hours back, and nobody has to. The door was never locked.

Put the phone down. Walk outside. Make something. Sit with people you love and let the evening run long.

Welcome back to your own hours.

This is the end of the series, not the end of the work. Come back to this desk. The signal stays on.
