The Insulated: What the Top Already Has That You Don't

When pressure builds in any system, it doesn't hit everyone the same way.

At the top, there's insulation, and it comes in layers:

  • Money: diversified, protected, and positioned to weather volatility.
  • Legal protection: professionals on call who know how to navigate any disruption.
  • Networks: relationships that open doors and return phone calls.
  • Contingency plans: real ones, written down, sometimes with a place to go.

None of that is secret, and none of it is necessarily wrong. It's what people with resources and good information do when they read the signals.

But think about what it means.

"The people with the best view of what's coming are quietly getting ready."

If those with the most information are preparing, the pressure is real. And if most working families have none of those layers, then most of us are standing in the open.

The honest response isn't resentment. Resentment is just more energy spent sideways. The honest response is to ask: what version of those layers can regular people build?

We can't all have legal teams. But we can have neighbors who know us. We can't all have diversified portfolios. But we can have a little set aside and a list of who has what. We can't all have a second home. But we can have a phone tree.

Insulation for ordinary people doesn't come from wealth. It comes from each other.

They control the narrative. We control the signal.
